Liverpool have announced Rob Page as the new head coach for their under-21 team. Page, who previously led Wales, will replace Barry Lewtas. Lewtas stepped down after five years in charge of Liverpool's under-21s. Page's tenure with Wales ended last June after they failed to qualify for Euro 2024.
Page's notable achievements include guiding Wales to their first World Cup appearance since 1958. However, during the Qatar 2022 World Cup, Wales managed only one point from three group-stage matches. They drew 1-1 with the United States but suffered losses against Iran and England.

Before becoming head coach, Page served as an assistant to Ryan Giggs for Wales. His leadership saw Wales reach the last 16 at Euro 2020 and qualify for the 2022 World Cup. His efforts also facilitated several young players' transition into the senior national squad.
Alex Inglethorpe, Liverpool's academy director, expressed confidence in Page's abilities. He stated on the club’s website: "Rob brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to a key role as young players look to bridge that gap from academy prospect to first-team footballers."
The Liverpool under-21 team finished 16th in the Premier League 2 table for the 2024-25 season. They accumulated 27 points over 20 matches. This performance highlights the need for strong leadership and development within the team.
Page is expected to leverage his extensive experience to nurture young talent at Liverpool. His previous success with Wales demonstrates his capability in developing players and achieving competitive results on significant stages.
