Liverpool Celebrates Return To Champions League With 3-1 Victory Over AC Milan

Trent Alexander-Arnold expressed joy over Liverpool's return to the Champions League following a 3-1 victory against AC Milan. The team showcased resilience after an early setback, securing their place in the competition once more.

Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold expressed his delight as the team marked their return to the Champions League with a 3-1 win against AC Milan. The Reds, who missed out on last season's competition, initially trailed after Christian Pulisic scored early at San Siro. However, headers from Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk turned the game around before Dominik Szoboszlai secured victory.

Alexander-Arnold was thrilled with Liverpool's performance in the revamped tournament. "I think this club belongs in the Champions League with the history that it's had and [it was] disappointing last year not being a part of it," he told CBS Sports. "But we're back where we belong and [there is] no better way to get this campaign started than getting a win at the San Siro—a special venue, a special stadium and an unbelievable result."

Liverpool Triumphs in Champions League Return

The full-back reached a significant milestone by assisting Konate's equaliser, marking his 80th assist for Liverpool. Only Kevin De Bruyne (146) and Mohamed Salah (90) have more assists in the Premier League since Alexander-Arnold's debut in October 2016. This achievement highlights his crucial role in Liverpool's attacking play.

After contributing to England's journey to the Euro 2024 final, Alexander-Arnold has been ever-present for Liverpool this season under new manager Arne Slot. He also played in both of England’s Nations League matches against Ireland and Finland earlier this month.

Reflecting on his summer break after the Euros, Alexander-Arnold shared his eagerness to work with Slot. "I had a short time off in the summer where, after the Euros, there was a little bit of time for holidays and then back into it," he added. "I think it was just an excitement to work under a new manager that I had never had before and, having spoken to the manager, I was excited for the plans and the way that he talked about it."

His goal was to return as fit as possible for the season opener and make an impact immediately. Alexander-Arnold aimed to be among the league’s top performers from day one.
