Liverpool captain Gerarrd opens contract talks
LONDON, May 4 (Reuters) Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard confirmed today that he has begun talks over a new contract.
Gerrard, who led Liverpool to a second Champions League final in three years this week, told the club's Web site ''I'm in talks to extend my contract at Liverpool and I've never been happier with my football. I'd love nothing better than to get this contract sorted and signed.'' The England international midfielder will turn 27 on May 30, meaning any deal could possibly keep him permanently at the club where he began his career in 1998.
Liverpool face AC Milan in a repeat of the 2005 Champions League final in Athens on May 23.
