Liverpool: Couple of stats to demonstrate why Reds are struggling this season

Despite a generous summer and winter transfer window, Liverpool have looked like a team in disarray and have plumbed new depths since the conclusion of the World Cup.

Bengaluru, February 9: Liverpool's fall from grace in the ongoing season is remarkable considering their performance just a year back.

Jurgen Klopp and co were just a few points away from being the first English football team to achieve a quadruple last season.

They won the FA cup, lost the Champions League final, and fought neck to neck with Pep Guardiola's Manchester City for the championship title after just coming short.

Following an impressive last season, fans were hopeful of a better season this summer with the club expected to build on from last season's progress. But so far, it has been completely opposite.

Despite a generous summer and winter transfer window, Liverpool have looked like a team in disarray and have plumbed new depths since the conclusion of the World Cup. While they are already out of FA Cup and EFL Cup, the Reds sit 10th in the League table.

They are almost sure to finish outside the Champions League qualification places in the league. Overall the Anfield side are facing a lot of issues at the moment on the pitch and their struggle can be put up with a couple of awful numbers.

- The Reds have now lost three consecutive away games, an instance which only happened a decade back under Kenny Dalgish's stint when they lost six times in seven matches.

- Following the conclusion of the World Cup, Liverpool are placed 13th in terms of points accumulated while in 2023 they are the lowest point-getters so far.

- Liverpool have the worst defensive record in 2023 as well, conceding nine goals and scoring just once.

- Since the World Cup break no Liverpool player has scored more than one Premier League goal in the six matches.

- Liverpool lost just four times in 63 games in all competitions last season. This season they have already lost double of that only in a mid-path.

- This is Liverpool's lowest point total at this time in a season since Roy Hodgson was in charge in 2010-11. When Hodgson departed his position, Liverpool had collected 25 points from 20 games, just four fewer than they had thus far in 2022-23.
