Liverpool's Harvey Elliott Credits Alisson As The Best Goalkeeper After PSG Victory

In a thrilling match against PSG, Liverpool's Harvey Elliott praised goalkeeper Alisson for his exceptional performance. With nine saves, Alisson played a pivotal role in securing a 1-0 win, allowing Liverpool to advance in the Champions League.

Liverpool's goalkeeper, Alisson, has been praised as the world's best by team-mate Harvey Elliott. Alisson's exceptional saves were crucial in Liverpool's 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes. This win gives Liverpool an advantage heading into the second leg at Anfield, with hopes of reaching the Champions League quarter-finals. Despite Elliott scoring the decisive goal, he believes Alisson deserves most of the credit.

Alisson made remarkable saves against Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola, and Ousmane Dembele. Although Kvaratskhelia managed to score, a close VAR decision disallowed the goal. In total, Alisson recorded nine saves, setting a record for a Liverpool goalkeeper in a single Champions League match since 2003-04.

Elliott Hails Alisson as Best Goalkeeper

Elliott acknowledged that PSG appeared fatigued towards the end due to Liverpool's relentless work rate. He stated, "Full credit to the team, You could see that PSG became a bit tired towards the end and that was down to the team's work rate." He added that without Alisson's performance, they might not have secured the win.

Reflecting on his own contribution, Elliott expressed gratitude for converting his chance into a goal. "It was down to me to put the opportunity away and thankfully it went in," he said. He emphasised Alisson's importance by stating, "No words [on Alisson's performance]. This guy is unbelievable. The best in the world."

Liverpool managed only two shots compared to PSG's 27 attempts. This marked one of the largest negative shot differences for a winning team in Champions League knockout history since 2003-04. A tweet from OptaJoe highlighted this statistic:

Alisson described his performance as possibly "the performance of my life." He credited his teammates' efforts for making his job easier during challenging moments against PSG's skilled attackers.

The manager had prepared them for a tough match against PSG's ball control skills. Alisson noted how they anticipated suffering but worked hard together as a unit. The collective effort allowed him to focus on stopping shots effectively.

The night ended perfectly with Elliott scoring late on, sealing an important victory for Liverpool. It was indeed a memorable occasion for both players and fans alike.
