Premier League: Liverpool desperate for Three Points as Manchester City threat looms large

Liverpool are sitting at the top of the Premier League table with only two points making the difference. Manchester City are in 2nd place in the table having played one less game than the Reds.

Hence, before Liverpool take to the field on Saturday against Burnley, Man City could take over the table-topper position. However, whether Man City will retain that position for a day or longer will depend on the Reds' match result.

Liverpool

Liverpool had a disastrous game against Arsenal in their last Premier League match. As coach Jurgen Klopp iterated, nothing went in their favour that day, especially the mistakes from the backline that cost them the match stung the most.

Arsenal were undoubtedly the better side and deserved winners in a match where the Reds looked lost. This match also saw them end their 11-match unbeaten streak in all competitions and their 15-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League.

Now, they need to pull themselves back against Burnley as Manchester City are not backing down. They are in terrific form as the reigning champions are currently on a 9-game winning run and a 12-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

Man City will be looking to gain momentum in their seasonal run-of-the-mill winning run. Hence, the Reds will lose their chance to win the league in Klopp’s last season at the club if they don't pick up the slack.

As they welcome Burnley at Anfield, the Merseyside club will have the odds in their favour having gone 23 top-flight games undefeated at home. However, even though Burnley are in the relegation zone, the Reds cannot take it for granted.

They have their next games against Brentford and Luton Town who are fighting for their lives hovering over the relegation zone before they take on Chelsea in the EFL Cup final. Hence, runs of wins will help them stay on top and build momentum for the final.
