Liverpool join Borussia Dortmund in the hunt for Federico Martinez

German giants Borussia Dortmund are also looking to add to their talented youngsters, with Napoli and Roma also keeping tabs on a move to Italy.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp keen on Federico Martinez

Bengaluru, December 10: Liverpool have joined the race to sign highly-rated young Uruguayan winger Federico Martinez who right now plies his trade for Uruguayan giants Liverpool.

The 21-year-old has been a regular for Liverpool FC in Montevideo and has been watched this season by the scouts of Liverpool but they are not the only club interested in the Uruguayan prodigy.

He could leave during the January transfer window in a £5million move with clubs willing to take him over to Europe. Swansea, West Ham and Everton have shown interest in bringing him to the Premier League.

German giants Borussia Dortmund are also looking to add to their talented youngsters, with Napoli and Roma also keeping tabs on a move to Italy.

Martinez has played for the Uruguay Under-17s but has been tipped for a full call-up following his impressive season in South America.

He also has a Spanish passport which means he can move without a work permit.

The youngster caught the eye earlier in the season against Penerol with a stunning goal. In that game he was playing against ex-Liverpool winger Maxi Rodriguez, who is playing in the Uruguayan league at the age of 36.

Roriguez reportedly has told his former club to sign the youngster at any cost.

Martinez’s progress has seen him being compared to Argentine winger Angel Di Maria in South America following his emergence in senior football.

Liverpool do boast a strong attack but they would still do well if they add quality young players to provide the depth.

Martinez is surely an unknown talent but if Liverpool get him on the cheap, this should be a very good deal and a huge win for the Liverpool scouts who are notorious for their inability to spot emerging talents.
