Liverpool join the race for Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri

Liverpool, August 15: Liverpool have apparently approached Nice over the potential transfer of midfielder Jean Michael Seri.

The 26-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move to Emirates this Summer, however, a very little has developed from the practical interest.

There had been also bits of gossip about a conceivable move by Barcelona, but now with the signing of Paulinho, the Spanish giants may now not search for another player in the midfield role.

And now according to a report of 'The Guardian', English outfit, Liverpool has registered their interest in the player as they want him as an alternative to Naby Keita, who apparently won't be sold this season.

A barrier in Arsenal's attempt to sign Seri could be their unavailability to appear in this season's the Champions League football whereas Liverpool could go on playing in the UCL if they can win the playoffs against Hoffenheim.

However, it is believed that the French could look to offload some players to make room for new recruits and whoever pays the £36m release clause, could land the player.

The Ligue 1 club's president, Jean-Pierre Rivere, also has hinted the same, insisting they will only sell if the total fee is paid.

"Seri has €40m clause," Rivere said. "Even if people don't take clauses seriously, they deserve respect. If a club offers €40m tomorrow, he'll go."

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted that they need midfielders before the closure of the transfer window at the end of the month.

And With midfielders, like Adam Lallana currently sidelined for at least three months with a thigh injury, while Philippe Coutinho is also doubtful for the next season in the Reds shirt as he handed in a transfer request amid interest from Barcelona which clearly prompted the need of signing another midfielder to the ranks.

So now if they can land the defensive cover for the midfield, it will surely make Liverpool squad a little more powerful.
