Arne Slot praised Liverpool's second-half display as delightful after their 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town in the Premier League opener. Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah scored post-break, securing a win in Slot's debut competitive match.
The Reds took an hour to break through as Ipswich held firm in the first half. However, Liverpool dominated once Jota netted a precise side-footed goal for 1-0. In the second half, Liverpool had 15 shots with an expected goals (xG) of 2.61, while Ipswich managed only three attempts, none on target.

Slot's team struggled initially, being out-shot four to three in the first half and losing 58.5% of duels. The former Feyenoord manager commended his team's ability to adjust at halftime.
When asked by TNT Sports about Liverpool's performance, Slot remarked: "It depends which half you're asking about! The first half was not action-packed because they were right on top of us." He noted Ipswich's aggression and Liverpool's difficulty finding rhythm or penetrating passes but lauded the second half as enjoyable to watch.
Slot emphasised the importance of winning duels, stating: "The first thing I said is we can't speak about tactics if we lose every duel." He highlighted Ibrahima Konate's aerial dominance as crucial for gaining control.
Despite criticism over not signing a new midfielder this off-season, Slot was impressed by Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, and Dominik Szoboszlai. "I don't think our problem in the first half was the midfield," he said. Slot appreciated their performances and mentioned that substitutes showed they were capable of starting.
He acknowledged Liverpool's depth but remained open to further signings: "We have many good players... if we can find another one, we will not hesitate."
Although some anticipated a transitional season after Jurgen Klopp's near-decade tenure, Slot aims for title contention. He stressed focusing on each game: "I'm not looking so far forward to the end of the season. I think in every game we have to do everything in terms of defence but also with the ball."
Reflecting on last season's close title race, Slot added: "If Son [Heung-min] scored [against Manchester City] we could've had another champion... We have to make sure we are up there with those teams."
This victory marks a promising start for Slot at Liverpool, showcasing tactical adaptability and strong squad depth.
