Bengaluru, February 14: Liverpool keeper Loris Karius has backed his new team-mate Virgil Van Dijk to lead his team's defensive organizations and claimed the player is on the right path to adapt to Liverpool's style of play.

The centre-back moved to Anfield from Southampton for a record £75 million at the start of January.

He got off to a terrific debut at Liverpool as he scored the winning goal in their Merseyside derby in FA Cup, winning the game 2-1. However, following that match the defender underperformed in consecutive matches and was even sent to the bench in the 3-0 victory over Huddersfield in Premier League.

The defender was also at fault during a high-voltage encounter against Tottenham Hotspurs two weeks back as he gave away the last minute penalty in their 2-2 encounter.

Former Liverpool players like Jamie Carragher slammed the defender for his poor outcome and suggested that the defender does not deserve to be the highest paid defender.

But amidst all this manager Jurgen Klopp kept his faith on the player and in the last game week against his former side Southampton, the 26-year-old was more than convincing with his defensive display.

And now the Red's first team keeper Loris Karius has also heaped praise on the player and suggested that the Dutch international is beginning to settle at the heart of the defence and more as time progresses the team will be settle in with the player.

"Virgil has played quite a bit now and we're getting more used to each other -- that's important for the team," Karius told the Liverpool Echo.

"He's a top player -- that's why Liverpool paid the price they did for him. Of course he has to adapt a bit because our style is so different. We defend high. He needs to get used to Dejan [Lovren] and Joel [Matip].

"But the more he gets used to our style, he's finding his feet more and more. It's good to see and as a keeper you feel comfortable having players like that in front of you. The clean sheet was great for all of us."

Liverpool will travel to Porto for the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie on Wednesday and the Dutch defender is expected to start in the crunch fixture.
