London, Aug 6: According to a host of English publications, Liverpool are hot on the tail of West Ham United star Manuel Lanzini as Klopp wants the Argentine to strengthen his squad.

Liverpool are back in UEFA Champions League after a long time and they will have a whole lot of games to play during the campaign. Klopp wants his side to compete on all fronts and believes that the addition of Lanzini could help him do that.

At first, it was thought that Lanzini is being considered as a potential replacement for Barcelona-bound Philippe Coutinho but Klopp has made it clear that his star man is going nowhere this season. However, Lanzini could still prove to be an invaluable addition the Reds.

Just 24 years of age, Lanzini is a proven player in the Premier League having been an influential part of West Ham in the last couple of years. His versatility couples up his value.

The 24-year-old is predominantly a number ten but is equally capable of playing on the flanks and even in a deeper role in midfield. He could prove to be an ideal player in Klopp's 4-3-3 system in midfield.

With Adam Lallana rumoured to be missing around three to four months due to injury, there is an urgent need of a flair player in midfield to keep the system ticking and Lanzini could do exactly that.

The 24-year-old is yet to pen fresh terms with the Hammers following his impressive exploits in east London. He's contracted to the club until 2020 but club bigwigs want to extend it further.

Lanzini bagged eight goals in 31 Premier League starts for West Ham United last term. He joined the club on a permanent deal worth around £10m 12 months ago after spending the previous campaign on loan from Al-Jazira.
