London, Dec 15: Liverpool got hold of highly rated star midfielder Naby Keita this Summer after the Merseysiders agreed to trigger Keita's release clause and allowed him staying at Bundesliga for one more season with RB Leipzig.
The Merseyside team earlier wanted to have the midfielder in this Summer and reportedly made a £66m offer. However, the Bundesliga club did not want to lose their coveted midfielder right then and decided to hold him for another season.
Keita, reportedly, had a buy out clause of £48m release clause that was set to be activated at the end of the season and Liverpool took advantage of it.
Liverpool furthermore agreed to pay a premium on top of that alleged buy out clause to fend off interest from other top European clubs and signed the player for next season.
However, now according to reports, the Reds might have to pay more than that alleged price as it is believed that RB Leipzig has inserted some condition in the transfer contract of Keita's which is solely dependent on Leipzig's Bundesliga campaign.
According to reports, Liverpool have to hand over £57million if the German side ends up without any European football in next season.
On the other hand, if they finish in a Europa League spot they figure will rise to £62m whereas if they avail the Champions League spot for the second year running they have to fork out £66million.
With so much money at stake, Jurgen Klopp will be hoping for a bad season for the Red Bulls side for their favour. However, the German side currently third in the Bundesliga after 16 matches and with the constant good performance it does not look like Liverpool will get the benefit of the transfer deal.
