Liverpool is gearing up for a challenging Champions League encounter against Paris Saint-Germain. Virgil van Dijk emphasised the need for Liverpool to elevate their performance to advance past this tough round-of-16 tie. Despite leading the Premier League by 13 points and having an EFL Cup final lined up, they face a formidable PSG side at Parc des Princes.
Paris Saint-Germain has been in outstanding form, securing 18 victories in their last 20 matches across all competitions, with two draws. Their recent Champions League performances have been particularly dominant, including a 10-0 aggregate win over Brest in the play-off round. In their last five European games, PSG scored 21 goals while conceding only three.

Van Dijk expressed his anticipation for the match, stating: "It will be a very good game against a team in form. I think they played very well in their last Champions League game against Brest." He acknowledged the difficulty of the challenge but highlighted that these are the types of games players aspire to compete in.
Liverpool's recent record against French teams away from home has been less than stellar. They have not won any of their last five away games against French sides in Europe, with two draws and three defeats. Their last victory on French soil was a 2-1 win over Marseille in September 2008 during the Champions League group stage.
Arne Slot, however, remains unbeaten in his European encounters with French teams. Under his guidance, Liverpool has secured two wins and one draw against French opposition this season, including a recent 2-1 victory over Lille.
Van Dijk stressed that Liverpool must be prepared for both legs of this knockout stage. "Of course, it feels like it goes up a level now," he said. "We are in the knockout stages and there is no time for errors or bad games." The team aims to perform at their best to deserve progression to the next round.
The Dutch defender also noted the importance of fighting hard and doing everything possible to secure victory. He stated that these are opportunities to showcase talent on a global stage and that Liverpool is fully aware of PSG's capabilities both in Paris and back home.
Liverpool faces an uphill battle against PSG, who have been assigned a 41% chance of advancing at Liverpool's expense. The Reds will need to bring their A-game if they hope to overcome this formidable opponent and continue their journey in Europe's elite competition.
