Liverpool FC Parts Ways With Manager Matt Beard Following Disappointing WSL Run

Liverpool have decided to part ways with manager Matt Beard following a challenging run in the Women's Super League, where they lost six out of their last eight matches. Beard had returned to Liverpool in 2021 for a second tenure, having previously led the team to two WSL titles between 2012 and 2015. After his return, he guided Liverpool back into the WSL and secured respectable finishes of seventh and fourth. However, this season has been less successful, with a recent 4-0 loss to Manchester City on February 16 leaving them in seventh place.

In a statement, Liverpool expressed gratitude for Beard's contributions and announced that Amber Whiteley will serve as interim manager while they search for a permanent replacement. The club acknowledged the memorable moments shared with Beard and thanked him for his significant impact. "Our priority was to return this team to where it belongs and we collectively achieved that in 2022 by winning promotion to the WSL," the statement read.

Liverpool FC Ends Tenure of Matt Beard

Under Beard's leadership during his second spell, Liverpool achieved a win percentage of 37.93 in the WSL, securing victories in 22 out of 58 games. Despite these achievements, the club believes that moving forward is essential for future success on the pitch. They emphasized the need to build on past momentum despite the difficulty of this decision.

Liverpool's upcoming fixtures include a visit to Crystal Palace in the WSL on Sunday, followed by a match against Arsenal in the Women's FA Cup quarter-finals one week later. The team aims to regain form under new leadership as they navigate these crucial games.

The club remains focused on achieving success and believes that this change provides an opportunity for improvement. As they prepare for upcoming challenges, Liverpool is committed to finding a manager who can lead them towards their goals and maintain their competitive edge in women's football.
