Liverpool plot shock deal for Ligue 1 midfielder

French media have come up with a surprising piece of news claiming Liverpool are set to make a move for Rennes midfielder Benjamin Andre.

New Delhi, Aug 5: It has been a frustrating transfer window for Liverpool to say the least. The Reds have acquired just three players in the summer in the form of Mohamed Salah, Dominic Solanke and Andrew Robertson but after Champions League qualification after so many years, the fans expected much better from the club.

Amidst such a futile window, the French media have come up with a surprising piece of news claiming Liverpool are set to make a move for Rennes midfielder Benjamin Andre.

The Reds are said to have been scouting the 26-year-old last season and they are now ready to finally make their move.

According to Le Telegramme, Liverpool are preparing to make an offer of £15.3m and they will formally submit it next week.

The Premier League club have been in the market for a new midfielder all summer, but they have failed to land their No.1 target RB Leipzig's Naby Keita. Liverpool are now prepared to turn to the 27-year-old and they believe their opening offer could strike a quick deal.

Andre joined Rennes back in 2014 after spending six years with Ajaccio. Since moving to Rennes, Andre has played over 90 Ligue 1 matches, scoring just one goal in the process. The Frenchman is under contract with Rennes until 2022.

It would really be a big shock if Liverpool make their move for a player like Andre who is hardly better than any of the midfield players Liverpool have, neither is he young.

Probably, Liverpool's interest in the Frenchman is due to his immense versatility. The Rennes star can play anywhere in midfield, on the wings, at either of the left-back positions and even as a striker and could be a valuable squad player at Anfield.

Liverpool have faced a major blow today as star midfielder Adam Lallana has been confirmed out for at least a couple of months due to injuries and the fans will surely be worried with the League set to start in less than ten days.
