Liverpool Aiming For Quadruple Glory Under Arne Slot As EFL Cup Quarter-Final Approaches

Liverpool's impressive form under Arne Slot continues as they prepare for the EFL Cup quarter-final against Southampton. Slot, in his debut season, has guided Liverpool to just one loss in 23 matches across all competitions. The team has secured 19 wins and three draws, boasting an 82.6% win rate. They currently lead the Premier League by two points over Chelsea and maintain a flawless Champions League record.

Slot is not surprised by Liverpool's pursuit of multiple trophies this season. Last year, under Jurgen Klopp, they were also contenders for four titles but only clinched the EFL Cup. Slot remarked, "This happened last season when this club won this competition... So I am not surprised with the quality we have that we are competing at this moment for these three trophies, and the fourth one [the FA Cup] is starting in January."

Liverpool will face Southampton on Wednesday, who recently parted ways with manager Russell Martin after a heavy defeat to Tottenham. The Reds aim to secure a spot in the EFL Cup semi-finals. Despite Slot's absence from the touchline due to suspension, he believes it won't significantly affect the team's performance.

Slot received his third yellow card of the season during a draw with Fulham, resulting in a one-match suspension. He explained that while he can't be on the sidelines, he can still influence preparations before and during halftime. "The least impact you have on your team is during the 45 minutes and the most is during half-time and before the game," Slot noted.

The EFL Cup holders have reached this stage 22 times before, advancing from 18 ties. This is their first time as holders since winning four consecutive titles from 1980-81 to 1983-84. Liverpool hopes to continue their successful run in this competition.

Goalkeeping Decisions

Caoimhin Kelleher may return as goalkeeper for Liverpool after Alisson's recent recovery from injury. Kelleher was instrumental in last season's EFL Cup victory. Slot acknowledged Kelleher's contributions: "We are really fortunate to have such a great second goalkeeper... if we need him he is able to do as well as he did."

Kelleher has gained valuable playing time due to Alisson's absence earlier in the season. Slot praised his performances and expressed confidence in his abilities should he be called upon again.
