Liverpool held Premier League leaders Arsenal to a 0-0 draw at Emirates Stadium, with Dominik Szoboszlai stating the display showed why Liverpool lifted last season's title. The visitors controlled long spells, especially after half-time, yet neither side produced much attacking quality during a cautious meeting between the reigning champions and current frontrunners.

Despite missing Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike because of international commitments and injuries, Liverpool pressed high and disrupted Arsenal's rhythm. Szoboszlai rotated roles in the front line with Florian Wirtz and Cody Gakpo, but Arsenal restricted clear chances. Both teams appeared more focused on shape and organisation than taking major risks in attack.

Goalkeepers Aaron Ramsdale and Alisson Becker were rarely troubled as neither side managed a shot on target. For Liverpool, it was the first competitive game without a shot on goal since a 1-0 defeat to Wigan Athletic in March 2010, ending a run of 600 matches with at least one effort on target.

This contest instead became a tactical battle, with few open spaces and very limited penalty-box action for either side.

Szoboszlai felt the disciplined performance represented progress after mixed recent results in Liverpool's push for a top-four place. "We faced an unbelievable team, he said. We showed again why we became champions last season. This was a step forward after recent weeks. We showed again, against a team that is top of the table, that we can compete. We need to take it with us for the next few weeks."

Speaking about Liverpool's tactical approach, Szoboszlai highlighted the physical demands of pressing Arsenal without the ball. "Of course, it's not easy to play here against such a great team, but I think no teams like to run against the ball in the Premier League, so in the first half we tried to get the ball as much as we could and the second half the same."

The quiet contest ended with controversy in second-half stoppage time. Arsenal substitute Gabriel Martinelli threw the ball at Conor Bradley while Bradley was on the ground, then tried to push the Liverpool player off the pitch. Liverpool's players reacted strongly, Martinelli received a yellow card, and Bradley left on a stretcher with a suspected serious knee injury.

Szoboszlai criticised the incident and stressed concern for Bradley. "I saw that Conor twisted his knee, I don't know what happened with him [Martinelli]. Obviously, he didn't want Conor to come back onto the pitch for time-wasting, but he was just in so much pain he couldn't even think where he rolled, and Gabriel came there to push him off the pitch. I understand you want to win, we want to win as well, but I think the health of a player is much more important than something else."

The draw kept Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table and offered Liverpool a solid point away, earned without several key forwards. The match lacked the usual attacking drama between the clubs, yet Szoboszlai's comments underlined Liverpool's belief that disciplined defending and intensity could support their drive for Champions League qualification.
