Liverpool have secured Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial £69 million, potentially rising to £78 million with add-ons. Though Liverpool has not disclosed contract specifics, Ekitike is believed to have agreed to a six-year term. Last season, he netted 22 goals in 48 matches, aiding Eintracht's Champions League qualification.
Ekitike's impressive performance last season saw him contribute 34 goals and assists combined. Only three Bundesliga players surpassed this tally: Michael Olise with 35 contributions, Serhou Guirassy with 40, and Harry Kane leading with 49. Ekitike initially joined Eintracht on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in February 2024 before making the move permanent in April.

This transfer window, Ekitike becomes Liverpool's fifth new addition. He follows Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Freddie Woodman. Notably, he is the third player Liverpool has signed from the Bundesliga this pre-season.
Before joining Liverpool, Ekitike was linked with other Premier League clubs. Newcastle United reportedly had a bid rejected last week. Liverpool had also shown interest in Newcastle's Alexander Isak but turned their attention to Ekitike after being rebuffed.
In Europe's top five leagues, only Benjamin Sesko and Bradley Barcola were younger than Ekitike while scoring at least 20 goals across all competitions. In the Bundesliga last season, Ekitike ranked second for expected goals (xG) at 21.6, trailing only Guirassy's 23.0. He led the league in shots (117) and touches inside the opposition box (206).
Ekitike's arrival strengthens Liverpool's attacking options as they aim for success in domestic and European competitions. His ability to score and assist makes him a valuable asset for the team moving forward.
