Liverpool's recent 2-0 triumph over Manchester City has been a significant step in quieting their critics. Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai scored, propelling the Reds to an 11-point lead over Arsenal in the Premier League standings. This victory followed a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa, which had led some media outlets to speculate about Liverpool's form.

Arne Slot, reflecting on the win, noted that Liverpool's success was more about defence than attack. Despite having fewer shots and less possession than City, Liverpool managed to secure a crucial victory. Slot emphasised the importance of adapting to challenges and maintaining focus regardless of external opinions.

Slot shared his thoughts with Sky Sports, stating: "Three days ago we had a draw at Villa and people told me we weren't in a good place and then three days later we win and it changes again. We work every single day to achieve this and it is three months of very hard work to maintain this."

The Reds' performance against City highlighted their defensive strength. Although they had fewer shots (16 compared to City's eight) and less possession (34% versus City's 66%), they effectively contained City's attack. The gap between Liverpool and fourth-place City is now 20 points, the largest since July 2020.

Slot acknowledged that while Liverpool are 11 points ahead, Arsenal still have a game in hand. He remarked on the unpredictability of football results, noting how quickly perceptions can change based on recent performances.

He stated: "The only chance you have to win here is to defend very well." This adaptability has been key to their current position.
