Berlin, August 04: Liverpool's hopes of signing Naby Keita has boosted once again after RB Leipzig's sporting director Ralf Rangnick admitted the midfielder is not expected to renew his club contract.

The Guinea international midfielder is understood to be Jurgen Klopp's number one target and the Reds boss has seen two bids around £70 million rejected as the Bundesliga club are adamant to not let go the player by any means.

Keita's present deal keeps runs until 2020 and Leipzig want him to pen an extension on the current contract.

It is believed that Leipzig have given the Guinea midfielder an improved contract and want to make him the club's highest paid player to eliminate the £48 million buy out clause which kicks in next summer.

However, the German club's Sporting director Ralf Rangnick now claimed that in spite of an eagerness from his side the 22-year-old is probably not going to agree to any sort of extension till now, potentially opening a door for Liverpool.

"I am not currently assuming that we will be able to extend his contract prematurely," he revealed.

"I can assure you that Naby will be playing with us this season. All other scenarios also depend on how we do this season, how Naby plays himself and so on."

Keita has a €50 million (£44.7m) buy out clause that will be effective from next summer if he does not sign a new deal, but Rangnick insisted although the situation is critical the club will not sell their prized asset this Summer at any price.

"It does not matter at all whether it's £67m or £90m,' Rangnick added. "We have not developed for five years so that we can lose one of our best players in the first Champions League season.

"That would make no sense. We want to be successful in sports."

Keita moved to Leipzig only last season and scored eight times to help his newly-promoted team finishing in a impressive second, just behind Champions Bayern Munich. He also has 25 caps for his country and scored three goals in the meantime.
