Liverpool FC To Construct Permanent Memorial For Diogo Jota At Anfield Following His Passing

Liverpool FC has confirmed plans to create a permanent memorial for Diogo Jota at Anfield after his tragic death. The club will honour him with tributes and a dedicated sculpture.

Liverpool have announced plans to honour Diogo Jota with a permanent memorial at Anfield. Jota tragically passed away in a car accident on July 3, alongside his brother Andre Silva, in Zamora, Spain. Since then, fans have left numerous tributes outside Anfield and Molineux, where Jota played for Wolves from 2017 to 2020.

The club will create a sculpture outside Anfield using recycled items left by supporters. Additionally, floral tributes will be repurposed into flower beds at various club locations, including Anfield and the AXA Training Centre in Kirkby. Liverpool have also retired Jota's number 20 shirt across all teams, marking the first time this honour has been bestowed upon a player in the club's history.

Liverpool to Build Jota Memorial at Anfield

To further commemorate Jota, Liverpool players will wear a "Forever 20" patch on their shirts during the 2025-26 season. A temporary reflection area will also be set up at Anfield for fans to pay their respects. The club expressed gratitude for the support shown by fans through a statement on social media.

Liverpool's pre-season activities included several tributes to Jota and Silva. During their first friendly match against Preston North End on July 13, which ended in a 3-1 victory, pre-match ceremonies honoured both individuals. The first team will also wear patches featuring Jota's name and number during their pre-season tour of Asia, where they are scheduled to play against Milan and Yokohama F. Marinos.

The club's efforts reflect the deep impact Jota had on both teammates and fans alike. These initiatives aim to preserve his memory within the Liverpool community while offering supporters a space to remember him.
