Liverpool Vs Everton: Talking Points from Merseyside derby

The fixture that has produced the most number of yellow and red cards over the years, ended in a draw despite Liverpool's dominance from the beginning to the final whistle.

Bengaluru, December 11: The Super Sunday in the Premier League witnessed two big derbies, the first between them was the Merseyside derby, the 227th one to be played between Liverpool and Everton, the Red and Blue half of the Liverpool city.

The fixture that has produced the most number of yellow and red cards over the years, ended in a draw despite Liverpool's dominance from the beginning to the final whistle.

Jurgen Klopp made some big calls in the game dropping both Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino. Both did come on later but another big call was made as Klopp substituted Salah early in the game despite scoring the only Liverpool goal.

Everton, despite being outplayed for the whole of the game, scored their equaliser through Wayne Rooney from the spot. It was his first ever goal in a Merseyside derby and he must be grateful to the referee for awarding his side a very kind penalty.

Here are three talking points from the game-

Mohamed Salah on fire

Mohamed Salah is in the form of his life and once again took his name on the score-sheet in an audacious manner. Liverpool were the better team in the first half by some distance but they needed their star Egyptian's incredible effort to get the much-needed lead.

With the form he is in, Salah is among the best players in the world and he looks unstoppable right now.

Big Sam- the master of defending

Sam Allardyce keeps Everton unbeaten since taking charge of the club in a difficult time and against the odds, his Everton side took one valuable point from Anfield against an in-form Liverpool side.

The penalty was kindly given but Liverpool could only score one goal throughout the game despite their dominance for which Allardyce must be given due credit.

Klopp's rotation backfires?

Klopp can’t be criticised for the dropped points on this occasion, can he? Well, it was not the best game for resting the likes of Coutinho, Firmino or Wijnaldum but the German gaffer had to play them in the all-important game in the midweek in the Champions League. The players are only humans.

Klopp's rotation policy did not backfire at all. It was the referee's poor decision that cost the Reds two valuable points.
