London, Feb 5: Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur collided with each other in a massive six-pointer on Sunday (February 4) that could decide the top four race but the game ended in a stalemate.
Here are the talking points from the game:
Mohamed Salah is from another planet
Mohamed Salah is a special player and he is in an insane form this season and once again showed it against Spurs. It was his best game in a Liverpool shirt so far. Especially for the second goal, he did something which only Lionel Messi can produce.
In the first 45 minutes, Sadio Mane was far more integral to the Reds’ high press and quick transitions than Salah was. But the Egyptian spurned at least three opportunities to play killer passes for goalscoring chances—but more than made up for any shortfall with another two goals.
Poor officiating
This game will be remembered for a long time for the wrong reasons. It was an example of how poor officials can be on a consistent basis. Both penalties given to Spurs were not legit. Kane was offside for the first one and also clearly dived while for the second one, Lamela was offside and the Argentine made the most of it.
Also for the second one, the referee and the linesman had different opinions and the linesman's decision stood who was actually in a farther position compared to the referee. The two penalties given were the headliners only. There are many other instances of poor officiating as well.
Kane makes up for his miss
Kane held his head in his hands when Salah scored his brilliant second goal just a few minutes after he had fired his first penalty straight at Loris Karius, but he made no mistake when afforded a second chance by the linesman's decision to pull play back for Tottenham's second spot-kick.
As well as salvaging a vital point for Spurs in the top-four fight, the cool finish brought up 100 Premier League goals for Kane in his 141st appearance, meaning only Alan Shearer has reached the milestone in fewer appearances.
