Premier League giants Liverpool are reportedly eyeing Bayer Leverkusen starlet Florian Wirtz as the first signing under Xabi Alonso. Alonso is currently believed to be the frontrunner to replace Jurgen Klopp at the Anfield hot seat in the summer and he could get a familiar face to work with in Wirtz at the Merseyside club.
As per reports, Liverpool scouts were present during Bayer Leverkusen's 3-0 win against Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Saturday, February 10. Wirtz came up with the game of his life as Bayer Leverkusen stepped a bit closer to the elusive Bundesliga title taking a five-point lead over the Bavarian giants.

Apart from Wirtz, Liverpool also watched Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie as well as Bayern Munich duo Jamal Musiala and Joshua Kimmich. Wirtz and Hincapie certainly did not let the Reds down as they both impressed in a gargantuan win for Xabi Alonso’s side.
It has been claimed that the Reds are considering a club-record £110 million deal to bring Wirtz to Anfield to pair up with Xabi Alonso. While the fee would become the club record at the Merseyside club, it seems perfectly justified for one of the brightest talents in world football right now.
Wirtz has eight goals and 15 assists to his name in 29 appearances across competitions this season. The Germany international is the lynchpin in Xabi Alonso’s side which is arguably the best team in Europe in terms of form and momentum right now.
The 20-year-old is capable of playing either as a number ten or as a number eight and can also operate on the flanks. Wirtz has also been used as a false nine by Alonso occasionally which speaks volumes about his adaptability and versatility.
The German playmaker has already made 132 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen till date and has been capped 14 times for Germany. He could be a wonderful addition to Liverpool regardless of Alonso taking over at Anfield.
