London City Lionesses Appoint Eder Maestre As Head Coach After Precheur Departure

London City Lionesses have named former Tenerife head coach Eder Maestre as the new manager, following Jocelyn Precheur’s dismissal before Christmas, with the club confirming the 39-year-old will lead their return to Women’s Super League action against struggling Liverpool on January 11.

Precheur lost the role on December 21 while London City Lionesses sat sixth in the table during their first Women’s Super League season, with the club stressing the decision was not tied to results but instead linked to a long-term strategy for future development.

Maestre left Tenerife in December after guiding the Liga F side into the top half, where Tenerife currently stand fifth behind Barcelona, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid, and Maestre had earlier coached Real Sociedad, which strengthened Maestre’s reputation in Spanish women’s football.

Explaining Precheur’s exit, London City Lionesses stated that the decision was made with "one eye on the future," underlining that the club viewed the change as part of a broader plan, rather than a response to the league position or immediate performances in their debut top-flight campaign.

Maestre is seen within Spain as a developing coach with clear tactical ideas, and London City Lionesses now expect that background to support their push in the Women’s Super League, as Maestre steps into English football for the first time with a squad already performing solidly at mid-table level.

Speaking after the appointment was confirmed, Maestre said: "I am delighted to join London City Lionesses. Working in English football has always been my goal, and representing this club is a real honour."

Maestre described the role as the standout opportunity available, stating that the club’s project in women’s football matched Maestre’s own ambitions, and also highlighted the strong base already built at London City Lionesses, which Maestre believes can support further progress during the coming stage.

Looking ahead, Maestre has targeted collective progress in what Maestre called the next phase of London City’s development, stressing that supporters will be vital during the run-in, especially around the away fixtures against Liverpool and Sunderland and the home match at the CopperJax Community Stadium in Bromley versus Manchester City.
