David Lopez Urges Girona To Keep Fighting After Tough Start In Champions League

Despite a challenging start in the Champions League with two losses, David Lopez motivates Girona to persist and focus on their upcoming match against Slovan Bratislava.

David Lopez has secured a place in Girona's history by scoring their first Champions League goal. However, the joy was short-lived as defensive mistakes led to a 3-2 defeat against Feyenoord at home. This marked their second loss in the competition, following a 1-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, where goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga scored an own goal.

Girona's Champions League journey has been challenging, with two own goals and a missed penalty contributing to their latest loss. Despite these setbacks, they have matched Fenerbahce's record from 2007-08 for most own goals in a single campaign. Yet, opportunities were present for Girona to change the outcome of the match.

Lopez Encourages Girona After Champions League Losses

Reflecting on the game, Lopez expressed his thoughts: "It was a great game for the spectators in which we did everything possible to win. We created chances, we have to keep going, it's a shame," he told reporters. He acknowledged that minor setbacks during the match hindered their progress but maintained that they never gave up.

Despite their struggles, Girona dominated possession with 64% and took 13 shots at goal. Their next Champions League match is against Slovan Bratislava at home, presenting an opportunity to turn their European campaign around. Lopez remains optimistic about their prospects: "In the next match we have to keep the three points here no matter what. We have enough quality in the squad to be able to do it," he said.

The team is determined to learn from these experiences and improve in future matches. With strong performances and strategic adjustments, they aim to secure better results in upcoming fixtures.
