Lucy Bronze Eyes Champions League Triumph With Chelsea In New Era

Lucy Bronze is targeting Champions League success with Chelsea, led by new manager Sonia Bompastor. With a rich history of wins, Bronze aims to bring glory back to English women's football.

Lucy Bronze aims to secure Champions League victory in her debut season at Chelsea. The Blues are embarking on a new chapter under manager Sonia Bompastor, who led Lyon to the Champions League final last season. Bronze, however, played a pivotal role in helping Barcelona defeat Bompastor's team in that final, securing the trophy for the fifth time in her career.

Bronze has previously won the Champions League three times with Lyon and twice with Barcelona. Now, she is determined to achieve a sixth title with Chelsea, who have yet to claim European glory under former manager Emma Hayes. Speaking to Sky Sports, Bronze said: "Bringing the Champions League back to this country would be a huge success and would make women's football even better."

Bronze Targets Chelsea Champions Win

Bompastor's impressive track record includes winning the Champions League three times—twice as a player and once as a manager. Her assistant, Camille Abily, also brings valuable experience. Bronze believes their expertise will be crucial for Chelsea's success. "The team's good enough and adding Sonia and Cammy's experience as both coaches and players that have won it is a huge thing," Bronze added.

Bronze highlighted Bompastor's demanding nature as a key factor in driving the team forward. "She [Bompastor] has very high standards, she's very demanding," said Bronze. "I'm laughing but my Lyon team-mates used to play with her and nothing was ever good enough. Everything needed to be better, which is why she was one of the best players to ever play for France."

Bronze is optimistic about Chelsea's chances this season due to the high standards set by Bompastor and Abily. "They aren't afraid to talk about it and make the demands it takes to get to a final so hopefully this is the year we break that brick wall down," she said.

Bompastor's relentless pursuit of excellence has already made an impact on the team. "She's still got a little something now, but it's her standards that will hopefully get this team to the highest level," Bronze noted.

The combination of experienced leadership from Bompastor and Abily, along with Bronze's determination, sets Chelsea up for a promising campaign in their quest for European success.
