Luis Enrique Confirms Lucas Hernandez And Presnel Kimpembe Are Back In PSG Squad After Injuries

Luis Enrique has confirmed that defenders Lucas Hernandez and Presnel Kimpembe have rejoined Paris Saint-Germain after recovering from long-term injuries. Both players are expected to gradually reintegrate into the first team as PSG prepares for upcoming Ligue 1 matches.

Paris Saint-Germain's manager, Luis Enrique, announced the return of defenders Lucas Hernandez and Presnel Kimpembe to the team after recovering from significant injuries. Kimpembe had been sidelined since February 2023 due to an Achilles tendon rupture, while Hernandez underwent surgery in May for a torn ACL sustained during a Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund. Both players are now close to rejoining first-team action.

PSG is set to face Auxerre at the Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps this weekend, aiming to continue their unbeaten run in Ligue 1. The team has accumulated 33 points from 13 matches, scoring a league-high 37 goals. Their next fixtures include challenging games against Lyon, Monaco, and Lens, all of which are currently ranked within the top seven teams.

Hernandez and Kimpembe Return to PSG Squad

Enrique emphasised the importance of focusing on each game individually despite the demanding schedule. He highlighted PSG's impressive away record, having remained unbeaten in their last 30 Ligue 1 away matches with 23 wins and seven draws. This streak surpasses Lyon's previous record of 21 consecutive unbeaten away games between 2005 and 2006.

The manager acknowledged Auxerre's strong home performance, noting their organisation and ability to secure victories on their turf. "Auxerre is a team with very good results at home and difficult to play," Enrique stated. "They are well-organised. We have to win." He stressed that maintaining focus and managing player workload would be crucial for PSG's continued success.

Enrique also mentioned that both Hernandez and Kimpembe need time to regain their rhythm before becoming regular fixtures on the pitch again. "These are players who are returning," he told reporters. "They need rhythm; they lack the process of taking the time to train being able to help the team."

The return of these key defenders is seen as positive news for PSG as they aim to maintain their strong form in domestic competitions. Enrique expressed optimism about their recovery progress, stating that past injuries no longer hinder them as they reintegrate into the squad.
