Luis Enrique's Fight With Joao Pedro Sparks Controversy as Chelsea Rout PSG in Club World Cup Final

The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 final turned chaotic on Sunday, July 13, when Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique was involved in an unexpected altercation following his team's 0-3 defeat to Chelsea.

Tensions flared late in the match, culminating in a dramatic moment where Enrique appeared to strike Chelsea forward Joao Pedro, who fell to the ground before others intervened to diffuse the scene.

The drama came on the heels of an already heated contest. PSG had shown signs of frustration throughout the game and ended with 10 men after João Neves was sent off for pulling Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella's hair. Enrique's action added fuel to the fire of an already intense evening.

Despite the incident, Joao Pedro maintained composure in the post-match press conference. "I don't need to say anything about them because it's normal. Everyone wants to win the game, and in the end, I think they lose their heads. But this is football, this is happening. Now you need to enjoy because you won the tournament, that's it," Pedro said.

He further added, "I don't want to talk too much about them because you know how it works. Football is this."

On the pitch, Chelsea were dominant from start to finish. Cole Palmer led the charge with a sublime performance. Although he narrowly missed scoring early on from a Pedro flick, he made no mistake in the 22nd minute, calmly slotting a left-footed shot past the PSG goalkeeper after Malo Gusto's effort was blocked.

PSG had a golden chance through Fabian Ruiz, who played in Desire Doue, but the opportunity was wasted when Doue opted to pass instead of take the shot, allowing Cucurella to clear the danger.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was elated after the win, stating, "I have the feeling that this competition is going to be as important, if not more important than, the Champions League."

The Club World Cup triumph marks another major milestone in Maresca's growing legacy, though the post-match controversy may linger in headlines for days to come.
