Luis Enrique Motivates PSG To Maintain Focus In Silverware Pursuit

Luis Enrique urges Paris Saint-Germain to stay sharp as they aim for silverware. With a significant lead in Ligue 1, PSG must beat Saint-Etienne and rely on other results.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are on the brink of securing another Ligue 1 title. They need to defeat Saint-Etienne and hope for favourable results from other matches. Currently, PSG lead by 19 points over Marseille with eight games left. If Marseille lose and Monaco and Nice also drop points, PSG will clinch their 11th league title since the 2012-13 season.

PSG have not lost any of their 26 Ligue 1 matches this season, winning 21 and drawing five. They could become only the third team to remain unbeaten in their first 27 top-flight games, following Nantes in 1994-95 and PSG themselves in 2015-16. "We're never champions until it's mathematically a foregone conclusion," said Luis Enrique.

The team is also aiming for success in other competitions. PSG face Dunkerque in the Coupe de France semi-final on Tuesday. Additionally, they have a Champions League quarter-final against Aston Villa, with the first leg at home on April 9 and the second at Villa Park on April 15.

Luis Enrique is focused on maintaining momentum as they approach these crucial fixtures. "We need to be ready for the two or three months of competition," he stated. Last season, PSG reached the Champions League semi-finals but lost to Borussia Dortmund. They are determined to retain their Coupe de France title after defeating Lyon in last year's final.

Saint-Etienne, currently facing relegation threats, will host PSG next. The team sits 17th in the table, one point behind Le Havre who have played an extra game. Saint-Etienne were close to winning against Montpellier earlier this month before fan disruptions led to match abandonment.

PSG have a strong record against Saint-Etienne, remaining unbeaten in their last 27 encounters across all competitions. Only against Angers (30 games since 1976) and Brest (32 games since 1985) have they enjoyed longer unbeaten runs.

"We're playing away against a historic French club," Luis Enrique noted about the upcoming match at Saint-Etienne's stadium. He expressed enthusiasm for the passionate atmosphere expected there, saying it motivates his team greatly.

Luis Enrique has previously achieved significant success with Barcelona, winning LaLiga, the Champions League, and Copa del Rey titles in 2015. He now has an opportunity to replicate such achievements with PSG this year.

As PSG prepare for these decisive matches, they remain focused on both domestic and international goals under Luis Enrique's guidance. The team's performance in upcoming games will determine if they can secure multiple titles this season.
