Luis Enrique Highlights Teamwork As PSG Aims For Club World Cup Glory Against Chelsea

Luis Enrique downplays his star status as PSG prepares to face Chelsea in the Club World Cup final. Emphasising teamwork, he reflects on the team's successful season and challenges ahead.

Paris Saint-Germain's coach, Luis Enrique, insists he is not the standout figure at the Club World Cup. Instead, he highlights the collective strength of his team. PSG is set to face Chelsea in the final in Miami on Sunday. They aim to complete a trophy sweep for the 2024-25 season, having already secured Ligue 1, Trophee des Champions, Coupe de France, and Champions League titles.

PSG's journey through FIFA's expanded tournament has been impressive. Despite a setback against Botafogo in Group B, they triumphed over Inter Miami, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid with convincing victories. Their style of play under Luis Enrique has received acclaim for its fluidity and attacking prowess. A notable moment was Fabian Ruiz's goal against Madrid, showcasing their teamwork.

PSG Targets Club World Cup Glory with Teamwork

Luis Enrique emphasises that football is about having multiple stars on the field. "A team of 11 stars... that's football," he stated. He credits this approach to a shared commitment with President Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the sporting management. The focus on teamwork has been evident since Kylian Mbappe's move to Madrid last year, following Lionel Messi and Neymar's departures.

Despite their recent success, Luis Enrique remains cautious about Chelsea's challenge in the final. Chelsea boasts an impressive record in European and international finals since 2012. "It's important to be aware of the difficulty of the match," said Luis Enrique. He acknowledges Chelsea's strong defence and physicality.

Luis Enrique respects Chelsea's playing style and expects a competitive match. "I think it's going to be a close game," he remarked. Both teams have shown similar strengths in key aspects of football. While PSG won the Champions League, Chelsea claimed victory in the Conference League.

PSG enters Sunday's final as favourites after dominating recent knockout matches with an aggregate score of 18-0 across various competitions. However, Luis Enrique warns against complacency: "Anyone who thinks that this will be a formality knows nothing about football."

The coach reflects on his career achievements with humility. When asked about his current success, he said: "No. I've been much more successful in periods when we weren't winning." He prefers times when challenges arise over being in the spotlight.

PSG's journey reflects their dedication to teamwork and excellence on the field. As they prepare for Sunday's final against Chelsea, they remain focused on maintaining their winning momentum while respecting their formidable opponents' capabilities.
