Luka Modric to Continue Croatia Career as veteran midfielder available for UEFA Nations League
Croatia captain Luka Modric has decided to continue his international career and will be included in Slaven Bilić's squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League campaign.
The Croatian Football Federation (HNS) confirmed on Saturday that Modrić has informed Bilić and HNS president Marijan Kustić of his availability for the national team, ending speculation over the 40-year-old midfielder's future following Croatia's elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Modric remains Croatia's most-capped player, having made 202 appearances and scored 29 goals for his country. He made his international debut in March 2006 and has since played a central role in the greatest period in Croatian football history.
The midfielder captained Croatia to the 2018 World Cup final and helped them finish third at the 2022 tournament. He also led the country to the final of the 2023 UEFA Nations League. At the 2026 World Cup, Modrić reached 200 international appearances during the tournament.
His continuation also means Modric will work with Bilic again. The former Croatia defender was appointed head coach in July following Zlatko Dalić's departure and has returned to the role for a second spell, having previously managed the national side from 2006 to 2012.
"Of course I'm delighted by Luka's decision, because we all know what he represents and means for Croatia, both on and off the pitch," Bilic said. He added that he was particularly pleased to be working with Modrić again after 14 years.
Croatia's Nations League campaign begins against Czechia in Prague on September 26, followed by games against Spain and England. They will face Spain again on October 6 before completing the league phase against England and Czechia in November.
