Will Luke Shaw play again for Manchester United this season?

Manchester United's hopes for a strong finish to the season have been dealt a significant blow as left-back Luke Shaw is poised to miss the remainder of the campaign due to a recurrence of a previous leg injury.

Shaw, who had already endured a spell on the sidelines earlier in the season due to a thigh problem, made a return to action in late November before suffering another setback with a separate muscle issue, sidelining him for an additional month.

Despite his recent comeback and featuring in United's last four Premier League matches, Shaw's latest appearance has reportedly aggravated his injury.

During Manchester United's recent Premier League victory against Luton Town, Shaw was substituted at halftime with Victor Lindelof taking his place. While United secured a crucial victory, the news of Shaw's prognosis has left the club reeling.

Reports suggest that Shaw was seen limping onto the team bus after the match, indicating a serious setback in his recovery. It is anticipated that Shaw could miss the remaining 13 Premier League matches, posing a significant challenge for manager Erik ten Hag in the left-back position.

Finding a suitable replacement for Shaw could prove to be a daunting task for United. Tyrell Malacia, his natural successor, has yet to feature this season due to knee surgery and recent setbacks in his recovery.

Additionally, United's decision to terminate Sergio Reguilon's loan from Tottenham last month further complicates the situation. Victor Lindelof and Sofyan Amrabat, who have deputized for Shaw in the past, have struggled to make an impact making things hard for Ten Hag.

Shaw's injury setback also raises concerns for England manager Gareth Southgate ahead of the upcoming Euros this summer. With Shaw likely to miss next month's friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, Southgate faces a selection dilemma in his defensive lineup.

As Manchester United navigate through a crucial phase of the season, the absence of Luke Shaw looms large, posing challenges both domestically and potentially on the international stage.
