Luton Town's manager, Rob Edwards, expressed relief after his team secured a 2-1 win against Derby County in the Championship on Friday. Despite Derby's strong start, Carlton Morris nearly put Luton ahead early but missed. The Rams took the lead in the 58th minute with Kayden Jackson's header from Kane Wilson's cross. However, Luton equalised in the 89th minute when Tom Holmes deflected Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu's volley past Jacob Widell Zetterstrom.
The decisive moment came three minutes later when Morris capitalised on Elijah Adebayo's saved shot to score the winner. This victory marked Luton's sixth home win of the season, moving them to 14th place and eight points clear of relegation. "I'm very relieved rather than happy I think," Edwards told Sky Sports. "It's credit to the lads; we're fighting, and it's not looking like how we'd like it to look."

Edwards acknowledged the need for improvement despite the win. He noted that their upcoming away games would be challenging but emphasised harnessing this victory's energy. Luton dominated at Kenilworth Road with 18 shots compared to Derby's 10, although most of their shots on target came in the second half. Morris was instrumental, contributing five shots and having the most touches in the box (11).
Morris praised his teammates' resilience and acknowledged Derby's tough competition. "That's why we love the Championship," he told Sky Sports. "There's so much character in this group." He also highlighted their injury struggles but noted their determination to stick together during challenging matches.
Despite their home success, Luton has struggled away from Kenilworth Road. Morris admitted they haven't performed well on the road but is confident this will change. The team's tight-knit nature has been crucial in overcoming obstacles, as demonstrated last season.
The victory brought joy to fans ahead of Christmas, with Edwards noting its significance for morale. He remarked on the game's intensity and how it affected him personally: "I need to smile a bit; it's turning me grey." The match showcased Luton's determination and grit, qualities they hope to carry forward into future fixtures.
