Lyon have dismissed head coach Pierre Sage as they trail Paris Saint-Germain by 17 points in Ligue 1. Their recent 1-1 draw with Nantes, a team fighting relegation, extended Lyon's winless streak to five games across all competitions. Ernest Nuamah scored early for Lyon, but Mostafa Mohamed equalised in the 90th minute for Nantes.
After 19 matches, Lyon are sixth in the league standings with only one victory in their last five games. They also faced an unexpected exit from the Coupe de France, losing to fifth-division Bourgoin-Jallieu on penalties earlier this month. The club announced on Tuesday that Sage and staff members Jamal Alioui, Rui Lemos, Denis Valour, and Remy Vercoutre have been suspended pending further decisions.

In the Europa League, Lyon are currently fifth out of 36 teams. They have secured four wins and two draws from seven matches. They are just one point behind Manchester United and four points adrift of leaders Lazio. Their upcoming match against Ludogorets will be crucial in determining their final position in the league phase.
Sage initially joined Lyon as an interim coach in November 2023. His role became permanent after leading the team to a sixth-place finish in Ligue 1 last season, earning him a contract until 2026. Despite his recent dismissal, the club acknowledged his contributions at the start of 2024.
The decision to part ways with Sage comes amid a challenging season for Lyon. While acknowledging his efforts earlier this year, the club is now looking to make changes to improve their performance moving forward.
