Madueke Expresses Delight Over Arsenal Fans' Support Following Initial Criticism

Noni Madueke expressed his delight at the warm reception from Arsenal fans at the Emirates Stadium, despite initial scepticism before his signing. Over 4,000 people had signed a petition against his transfer from Chelsea during the summer. However, after recovering from a knee injury, Madueke scored in Arsenal's 3-1 victory over Bayern Munich, marking his first goal for the club and in the Champions League.

Returning from injury during the north London derby, Madueke ended a 17-game goal drought with his strike against Bayern Munich. This was his first goal since scoring for Chelsea against Djurgarden in May. Despite early criticism this season, he felt uplifted by the support received in recent matches. "You are in the public eye - people can say whatever they want about you," said Madueke. "But being in the stadium, and how the fans have taken to me in the stadium, is unbelievable."

The atmosphere during Arsenal's last match against Tottenham was particularly motivating for Madueke. Playing on the wing allowed him to feel and hear the fans' encouragement. He described their positivity as a significant boost to his performance and morale.

Arsenal, currently leading the Premier League, will face second-place Chelsea on Sunday. The Blues trail by six points but are buoyed by a recent 3-0 Champions League win over Barcelona. Despite returning to his former club, Madueke emphasised that his focus remains on Arsenal's objectives rather than personal narratives.

Madueke acknowledged that playing at Stamford Bridge might be challenging but stressed his professionalism and experience in various atmospheres. "It might be a little bit hostile; it might not be," he stated. "But I am a professional footballer... I don't know if anything will faze me."

Madueke reiterated that Sunday's fixture is crucial for Arsenal's league ambitions rather than personal achievements. His primary aim is to help secure three points for Arsenal as they edge closer to their season goals.
