Maharashtra Governor congratulates Indian football team

Mumbai, Aug 30 (UNI) Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna today congratulated the Indian football team on winning the Nehru Cup tournament.

India won the tournament beating Syria by a solitary goal in the final match at Delhi yesterday.

The Governor in his message to the football team said, ''The team's convincing victory over strong contender Syria has gladdened the heart of every Indian with pride. It was the football team's spirited performance that achieved the remarkable victory for the country.'' ''I congratulate Skipper Baichung Bhutia, Defender N P Pradeep (scorer of all the important goals), all the members of the team, the coach and the team management for the victory. I am sure, this victory will boost the confidence of all sports persons in the country,'' the Governor stated in his message.
