Riyad Mahrez expressed his delight after Al-Ahli's 2-0 victory over Kawasaki Frontale in the AFC Champions League Elite final. This triumph marked Al-Ahli as the 25th different team to win the competition, and they achieved it without allowing a single shot on target from their opponents. Galeno and Franck Kessie scored the decisive goals for the Saudi Arabian side.

Mahrez, who joined Al-Ahli from Manchester City in 2023, considers this title as significant as his previous successes in the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and Africa Cup of Nations. "It's different," Mahrez stated. "There was the title with Leicester, [the 2019 African Cup of Nations] with Algeria, with City. I think all have a different taste, a different emotion. I cannot say I prefer one or the other. I think this is as good as all the titles I have."

The victory places Al-Ahli alongside Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad as the only Saudi clubs to have won this prestigious competition. Mahrez emphasized how crucial it was for him to secure a title with Al-Ahli after a disappointing previous season. He expressed immense satisfaction with this achievement and highlighted the collective effort of players, management, and supporters.

Reflecting on their journey through the tournament, Mahrez noted their consistent performance against various teams both at home and away. "Throughout the competition we played so well," he said. "We didn't lose one game; we played against many teams whether it was big teams, games away or home."

Mahrez praised his teammates for managing tough group stages and excelling in crucial matches like the semi-final against formidable opponents such as Al-Hilal. He acknowledged that their performance proved they were deserving champions.

"Even against Al-Hilal, who are a very good team, we showed to everyone we can beat anyone," Mahrez added. "I think we deserve it. I'm the first when a team deserves something to lift my hand to say congrats to them, and today it's our turn."
