Mike Maignan has committed long term to AC Milan, signing a fresh contract running until 2031. The goalkeeper, now 30, had faced heavy speculation about a free transfer exit this summer. Instead, Maignan extends a spell that already includes key domestic honours with Milan.
Since joining from Lille in 2021, Maignan has become central to Stefano Pioli’s side and the dressing room. Maignan played a major role in the 2021-22 Serie A title, which was Milan’s 19th Scudetto. In October 2024, the club handed Maignan the captaincy. Maignan also lifted the Supercoppa Italiana in 2024.

The renewal follows months of rumours, which grew because Maignan’s previous deal expired in June this year. Several European clubs were linked, but Chelsea showed the strongest reported interest. Chelsea tried to sign Maignan on the eve of the Club World Cup last year. That move failed, leaving Maignan in Italy as talks with Milan continued.
With the new agreement confirmed, Milan set out the club’s stance in a formal note. The statement read: "AC Milan and Mike Maignan are now further cementing their bond, with the shared aim of continuing to write new chapters in the club's history together." The deal signals Milan’s plan to build around Maignan for the coming years.
Maignan’s performances in Serie A this season explain Milan’s willingness to secure a long contract. Maignan has played 21 league games in the 2025-26 campaign. Maignan has kept eight clean sheets and has conceded 17 goals. The save percentage stands at 77%, one of the strongest records in Italy.
That figure places Maignan fourth among goalkeepers with at least 20 league appearances in 2025-26. The leading numbers in that group are shown below.
| Goalkeeper | Save percentage |
|---|---|
| Mile Svilar | 83.3% |
| Jean Butez | 78.7% |
| Ivan Provedel | 78.2% |
| Mike Maignan | 77% |
