Man City want Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic, a good deal?

Man City interested in Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic as the Croatia international faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge.

Mateo Kovacic

Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea. The Croatia international is in the final 18 months of his contract and is yet to enter talks with the Blues over a new deal.

Kovacic's situation at Chelsea has already alerted some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Premier League champions Manchester City. Matt Law of The Telegraph claims that Pep Guardiola is keeping tabs on Kovacic's situation at Stamford Bridge. The Spaniard is interested in working with the midfielder and will make a move for him in the summer.

Chelsea are looking to bolster their midfield and could decide to cash in on the Croatian in the summer. They signed him from Real Madrid in 2018 on a season-long loan and made the deal permanent during their transfer ban in 2019.

Kovacic has been brilliant for the Blues since joining but has lately been on the sidelines, often due to injuries and illness. He is yet to be offered a new deal and reports suggest that Graham Potter's side are not close to handing him a new contract.

Kovacic has been most impressive for the Blues since his move to Chelsea from Real Madrid back in 2018. The Croatia international initially joined the Stamford Bridge outfit on a season loan before his move was made permanent in 2019 for £40 million.

The midfielder has won four trophies during his time with the Blues and was also once awarded Chelsea Player of the Year. With Manchester City not being at their absolute best this season, Pep Guardiola is believed to be considering major reinforcements in the middle of the park and Kovacic could be a solid addition to the Cityzens.

Kovacic's technique, elegance and press resistance make him perfect for managers who like to play on the front foot. His ball-carrying abilities make him well-suited for Guardiola's system. With Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva facing an uncertain future at the Etihad, Kovacic could be a solid addition to the Sky Blues.
