Man Utd's Joshua Zirkzee Confirmed Out For Season With Hamstring Injury

Manchester United's coach, Ruben Amorim, has announced that Joshua Zirkzee will be sidelined for the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury. Zirkzee was forced off during United's 4-1 loss to Newcastle United, with Rasmus Hojlund taking his place early in the second half. The forward has struggled since joining from Bologna, netting only three goals in 32 league matches.

Despite his challenges, Zirkzee has been a regular feature under Amorim, appearing in 31 out of 32 games this season. No player has participated in all matches, but Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, and Hojlund have also played in 31. Only Fernandes has scored more than Zirkzee's six goals since Amorim's arrival in November.

The Europa League remains Manchester United's sole opportunity to secure silverware and European qualification amid a disappointing campaign. Amorim acknowledges the financial significance of returning to the Champions League but also sees potential benefits if they miss out. "I think it is more about the budget," he stated. "Champions League can change everything."

Amorim elaborated on the challenges of balancing Champions League fixtures with domestic commitments. Competing against top teams midweek and then playing Premier League matches at the weekend is demanding. However, without Champions League football, there would be more time to develop the team.

Zirkzee's absence until the 2025-26 season is a significant blow for both him and the team. Amorim expressed sympathy for Zirkzee's situation: "Joshua is out for the season. He will not play more this season; let's prepare him for the next one." The coach acknowledged Zirkzee's progress and how difficult it is for any player to halt their development.

United face Wolves in their upcoming Premier League match after their Europa League quarter-final against Lyon. Last week's defeat at Newcastle confirmed that they will finish with their lowest points tally in Premier League history.

The club must now focus on preparing for future seasons while managing current challenges. With Zirkzee sidelined, other players will need to step up as United aims to end their season on a positive note despite recent setbacks.
