Manandeep Singh returns to the field after three severe surgeries, courtesy mental strength

Hissar, Aug 4: Manandeep Singh was representing senior Indian team, was one of the regular strikers in East Bengal and amongst wanted footballers in the Indian Super League (ISL).

Manandeep could not have dreamt that he would have to receive a shock injury that would finally throw him out of the mainstream football and compel to undergo severe operation.

That was way back in 2013, but the sad story did not end there.

After undergoing knee operation and a six-month rehab, the striker from Hissar (Haryana) resumed playing. But Manandeep again suffered another blow when a severe injury on the Anterior Cruciate ligament (ACL) kept him out of action.

In a bid to recover fast the dejected striker went to Philadelphia for operation and rehab.

Manandeep told MyKhel on Thursday, "I had to appear before the selection trials in Delhi Dynamos that year in 2014. So, within a span of four months I recovered and appeared at trials for Delhi team."

But Manandeep joined Kerala Blasters instead of Delhi Dynamos in 2015. Still, the misfortune accompanied the Haryana striker.

Manadeep recalled, "One morning while training with Kerala Blasters I felt back pain. I did not give much attention initially. But the pain did not leave me and it increased as the days progressed before turning into unbearable state. When I went to doctor and an x-ray concluded there was a hairline fracture on my disk!"

That injury forced Manandeep completely out of that season. The striker, who had last represented senior Indian team in 2013 February, added, "Still I did not gave up. Even there were many people around me who used to say would not be able to return to the field. I waited for my time. After disk operation and during the rehab I was so disciplined that I never disobeyed doctor's advice."

Manandeep has signed for Mohammedan Sporting this season and his aim is to get call into the Indian team again.
