Real Madrid Overcomes Manchester City 3-2 With Jude Bellingham's Late Winner In Champions League Clash

In a thrilling Champions League encounter, Real Madrid defeated Manchester City 3-2. Jude Bellingham scored the decisive goal late in the match, showcasing his talent and securing an advantage for Los Blancos ahead of the second leg.

In a dramatic Champions League encounter, Manchester City faltered as Real Madrid clinched a 3-2 victory in the dying moments. Jude Bellingham emerged as the hero for Los Blancos at the Etihad Stadium, ensuring they carry a narrow lead into the second leg of this play-off. Erling Haaland's penalty in the 80th minute seemed to secure City's win after Kylian Mbappe had equalised earlier.

Despite their defensive injury woes, Real Madrid found resilience. Brahim Diaz scored against his former club, setting the stage for Bellingham's decisive goal. Manchester City allowed 20 shots from Real Madrid, marking the highest number of attempts by any visiting team at the Etihad since Pep Guardiola took charge.

Bellingham Leads Real Madrid to Victory Over City

Haaland opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a volley after Josko Gvardiol set him up with a chest pass from Jack Grealish's chip. The goal stood following a four-minute VAR review for offside. Vinicius Junior hit the crossbar soon after, while Manuel Akanji was also denied by the woodwork as City sought another goal.

Mbappe capitalised on Madrid's chance with an acrobatic finish that sailed past Ederson into the corner. However, Haaland restored City's lead from the penalty spot after Dani Ceballos fouled Phil Foden clumsily.

A mistake by Ederson allowed Madrid to equalise again, with Diaz scoring on a rebound. The final blow came when Vinicius' lob found Bellingham, who stretched to score the winner. This defeat marks City's fifth loss this season after leading in all competitions, matching their total from previous seasons combined.

City's Defensive Struggles Continue

This season has seen City struggle defensively in Europe despite scoring first in several matches. They have failed to win their last four Champions League games under such circumstances this season alone (1-4 v Sporting CP, 3-3 v Feyenoord, 2-4 v Paris Saint-Germain, and now 2-3 v Madrid).

The team has conceded 57 goals across all competitions this season over just 38 games—three more than last season's total over 59 matches. Only during Guardiola’s first campaign (2016-17) did they concede more goals (60).

Haaland Shines Amidst Concerns

Despite these setbacks, Haaland remains prolific upfront. His goals against Real Madrid were his first in the Champions League against them. Guardiola will be counting on another strong performance from him at Santiago Bernabeu next week.

The Norwegian striker now boasts an impressive tally of 49 goals in Europe's elite competition. However, Guardiola must address City's defensive frailties if they are to progress further.
