Manchester City Triumphs Over Borussia Dortmund 4-1 With Foden's Two Goals

Phil Foden's two remarkable goals led Manchester City to a 4-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund, ending the latter's unbeaten run in the Champions League. Erling Haaland also scored against his former team, contributing to City's dominant performance. Waldemar Anton's late goal for Dortmund was merely a consolation.

Foden had already challenged Gregor Kobel twice before finally scoring. In the 22nd minute, he received a pass from Tijjani Reijnders and curled a shot into the bottom-left corner. Just seven minutes later, Haaland doubled City's lead by converting Jeremy Doku's cutback.

Kobel made crucial saves against Nico O'Reilly and Reijnders before halftime. However, City's control paid off again in the 57th minute when Reijnders found Foden, who skillfully navigated past two defenders to score once more. Dortmund increased their pressure afterward, leading to Anton's goal past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Despite Dortmund's efforts, City maintained their advantage with Rayan Cherki restoring the three-goal lead in stoppage time with a precise low shot. This victory solidified City's position in the Champions League standings.

Since the start of the 2023-24 season, Foden has netted ten goals from outside the box for City across all competitions, leading among Premier League players. His second goal marked his 20th in the Champions League and elevated City to fourth place in their group.

Dortmund struggled to contain Haaland as well. He has now scored 18 goals in 14 matches this season without any penalties. City's clinical performance resulted in an expected goals (xG) tally of 1.94 from their 18 shots, with 11 on target. In contrast, Dortmund managed only 0.94 xG from their 12 attempts.
