Manchester City And Bayern Munich Secure Comfortable Wins To Maintain Perfect Records In Women's Champions League

Manchester City and Bayern Munich both achieved comfortable victories in the Women's Champions League, maintaining their perfect records. City defeated Hammarby 2-0, while Bayern triumphed over Valerenga 3-0, solidifying their positions at the top of their respective groups.

Manchester City continued their flawless run in the Women's Champions League by defeating Hammarby 2-0 at home. This victory places them at the top of Group D with nine points from three matches, following earlier wins against St. Polten and Barcelona, the 2023-24 champions. Gareth Taylor's team remains unbeaten across all competitions since their initial draw with Arsenal in the Women's Super League.

Both teams entered halftime without scoring, as the first half saw limited opportunities for either side. However, Manchester City took the lead just two minutes into the second half when Laura Blinkilde Brown scored after Aoba Fujino had previously hit the post. Khadija Shaw nearly doubled the lead but had a goal disallowed for offside in the 67th minute.

Fujino secured City's win by scoring their second goal in the 79th minute, marking a successful first encounter between these teams in this competition. City dominated with an expected goals (xG) total of 2.75 from 16 attempts, though only three were on target. Their performance underscored their deserving victory.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich also enjoyed a comfortable victory, defeating Valerenga 3-0 at home. The visitors struggled to make an impact throughout the match. Bayern took an early lead within ten minutes when Pernille Harder scored her fifth goal in three games with a header inside the box.

Giulia Gwinn extended Bayern's advantage seven minutes later by converting a penalty after Elise Thorsnes fouled Weronika Zawistowska. Bayern controlled possession with 76% compared to Valerenga's 24%, taking more shots (15 to 7) and achieving a higher xG (1.95 to 0.47). Sarah Zadrazil added a third goal during stoppage time with a remarkable volley past Tove Enblom.

This result keeps Bayern at the top of their group with three wins from three matches, leading Arsenal by three points. Valerenga remains at the bottom of Group C without any points so far in this competition.
