Ruben Amorim believes Manchester City are in a stronger position than Manchester United ahead of their derby clash, despite City's recent dip in form. Pep Guardiola's team has managed only one victory in their last ten matches across all competitions, including a defeat to Juventus in the Champions League. Meanwhile, United have also faced setbacks, losing their last two Premier League games but securing a comeback win against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.
Amorim considers City as favourites for the upcoming match at Etihad Stadium. He acknowledges that great teams can bounce back at any time and feels City have a better grasp of the game, confidence, and style of play. "The great teams can respond in any moment, and I think they are in a better place than us," said Amorim. Despite both teams struggling, he is more focused on addressing his own team's issues.

United currently sit 13th in the Premier League table after 15 games, trailing eight points behind City. Amorim emphasises that this derby does not carry the usual title implications but is just another challenging game against a strong opponent. He hopes to experience the true intensity of a title-contending derby in the future.
Earlier this season, Amorim led Sporting CP to a 4-1 victory over City in a Champions League match before joining Manchester United. Alan Pardew remains the only manager to defeat City with two different clubs within one season, having done so with Newcastle United and Crystal Palace during the 2014-15 campaign.
Hugo Viana is expected to transition from Sporting to City as director of football, succeeding Txiki Begiristain. Although Amorim was linked with City prior to Guardiola's contract renewal, he insists he was never contacted about the role. "Never," he stated firmly. "I never heard from them, and this was my only option."
When approached by Manchester United, Amorim had no hesitation about accepting the position. He had already considered it as a potential opportunity and felt confident about his decision to join United.
