Guardiola Confident Manchester City Will Secure Champions League Qualification Against Bournemouth

Pep Guardiola is confident that Manchester City will qualify for the Champions League as they prepare to face Bournemouth. City needs four points to secure their spot.

Pep Guardiola remains optimistic about Manchester City's chances of securing a spot in the Champions League. Despite a recent 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final, Guardiola is confident City will achieve their goal. They are currently sixth in the Premier League, trailing Aston Villa by one point for the final qualification spot but have a game in hand.

Guardiola stated, "I am thinking we are going to qualify. My thoughts and the way I think I think that. We need four points. That is the main target. I am absolutely [confident of qualifying]." He emphasised the importance of reaching the Champions League, acknowledging that if they fail, they will compete in the Europa League instead.

Guardiola Confident in City’s Champions League Hopes

The upcoming match against Bournemouth marks Kevin De Bruyne's last home game for City. Guardiola hinted at giving De Bruyne a fitting farewell, saying he deserves recognition for his contributions alongside other club legends. "Kevin will get what he deserves, and what he deserves is the best moment and the best compliment for his incredible trajectory," said Guardiola.

Bournemouth's head coach, Andoni Iraola, acknowledged their slim chances of European qualification after congratulating Crystal Palace on their FA Cup victory. Bournemouth sits 11th and needs to close a two-point gap on eighth-placed Brentford while hoping Chelsea or Newcastle United finish higher in their respective competitions.

Kevin De Bruyne has been instrumental against Bournemouth, contributing to seven goals in nine starts against them. This match could be his 142nd and final league appearance at Etihad Stadium. On the other side, Evanilson has been prolific for Bournemouth with six goals in his last nine away starts and 12 goals across all competitions this season.

Manchester City boasts an impressive record against Bournemouth at home, winning all seven Premier League encounters. Only Arsenal and Manchester United have better home win rates against specific opponents in the competition. City's recent form includes an eight-match unbeaten streak in the league with five wins.

Match Prediction: Manchester City Favoured

The odds favour Manchester City with a 59.8% chance of winning according to Opta's win probability model. A draw stands at 20.4%, while Bournemouth's chances are pegged at 19.8%. Historically, City has won their final home league game in 10 of the last 11 seasons.

Bournemouth faces a challenging task as they aim to disrupt City's stronghold at Etihad Stadium. Their previous encounter saw them secure a rare victory over City at home, but historically they've struggled against them with only two points from their last 20 meetings before that win.
