Manchester City Approaches Champions League Clash Against Real Madrid With Confidence And Calmness

Manchester City expresses confidence ahead of their Champions League match against Real Madrid. Savinho highlights the team's calm approach and experience in high-stakes games, despite a challenging season.

Manchester City are gearing up for their Champions League match against Real Madrid with a sense of confidence, according to Savinho. The team narrowly avoided elimination in the league phase, securing their spot in the play-offs with a comeback victory over Club Brugge. This marks the fifth time in five years that City and Madrid have faced each other in this competition.

The upcoming clash is notable as it is only the fourth fixture in European Cup/Champions League history to occur in four consecutive seasons. Overall, this will be their 13th meeting in Europe's top competition, with City having won four times, drawn five, and lost three. Pep Guardiola's team will host the first leg and are slight favourites with a 42.7% chance of winning, according to Opta's supercomputer.

City Calm Ahead of Real Madrid Clash

Despite a challenging season, Savinho mentions that Manchester City's squad remains quietly confident due to their experience in high-stakes matches. "These are the games that I came to Manchester City to play in," he told ESPN. The atmosphere was calm when the draw was made, as the team is accustomed to facing Madrid frequently.

City have been knocked out by Madrid more than any other team in the Champions League knockout stages, losing three times. Savinho, who played on loan at Girona last season, feels familiar with Real Madrid's style and players. "It's a team I know a lot," he said. He acknowledges Madrid's status as one of the world's best teams but hopes for a strong performance from City.

Savinho expressed excitement about participating in such high-profile matches alongside experienced teammates and managers. "They are great games to watch, great games to play in," he noted. Despite only losing three out of 12 encounters against Madrid, City has faced elimination by them multiple times.

The current season has been tough compared to previous ones where City won four consecutive Premier League titles. Fans are used to seeing consistent victories, but Savinho emphasises the need for focus and improvement amidst challenges. "In football, it's not all sunshine and flowers," he remarked.

As Manchester City prepare for this significant tie against Real Madrid, they aim to deliver an impressive performance over both legs. Savinho hopes that luck favours them as they strive for progression in the tournament.
