Gareth Taylor expressed satisfaction with Manchester City's performance against Hammarby, which secured their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals. Khadija Shaw scored first in the 31st minute, and although Ellen Wangerheim equalised shortly after halftime, Shaw netted the winner. This victory made her City's top scorer in the competition, surpassing Georgia Stanway and Janine Beckie.
The match at Tele2 Arena was challenging for City, marking their first quarter-final appearance since 2021. Despite both teams having 14 shots, Hammarby had a higher expected goals (xG) total of 2.15 compared to City's 1.07. The encounter was far from straightforward for the visitors.

City's unbeaten streak against Swedish teams continued with this win, making it six victories in such encounters. Taylor praised his team's determination in Stockholm. "I'm really pleased," Taylor stated. "It was about qualification for us tonight."
Taylor acknowledged the difficult conditions at Tele2 Arena, noting that while a draw would have sufficed, his players aimed for victory. "There were a couple of ways we could do it," he said. "Obviously, we knew a point was enough, but I don't think the players were thinking that way."
The lively pitch surface added to the challenge, but City worked hard to overcome it. Taylor noted areas where they could have controlled play better and credited Hammarby's aggressive approach.
Taylor also mentioned how officiating varied between halves but remained proud of his team’s resilience. "The referee was on our side a little bit in the first half and maybe not in the second," he observed.
He commended his players for their perseverance under pressure: "I'm really pleased and proud of the players; they really dug in tonight." Leaving a hostile environment with a win was particularly satisfying for him.
