Manchester City set to sign Brazilian midfielder Fred

Bengaluru, February 9: Manchester City are said have a verbal agreement in place to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred in the summer, according to reports.

The Brazilian, who is represented by Arsenal Invincible Gilberto Silva, has been on the radar of the Etihad club for a number of months but have been unable to agree terms.

The Brazilian has also been monitored by Manchester United on regular occasions but it seems that the Red Devils will miss out on the defensive midfielder.

It is being reported by renowned Portuguese journalist Marcus Alves that a deal is in place for £50million-rated Fred to make his Premier League move.

The report goes on to say that Gilberto took over from his previous agent, who is Ronaldinho's brother, and helped in negotiations with City last month.

Fred is said to want to play under Spanish boss Pep Guardiola and be part of the attacking style of play City have become known for.

Former Shakhtar boss Mircea Lucescu claimed Fred was definitely going to sign for City in the summer.

Fred arrived at the Donbass Arena as a replacement for City midfield enforcer Fernandinho while Lucescu was in charge in 2013 and looks set to become his long-term replacement at City as well.

Lucescu said: "Shakhtar Donetsk's best player is Fred in the centre of midfield.

"He was a bit anarchic on the left. I moved him in front of the defence.

"He will go to City like Fernandinho before him."

Pep Guardiola's Man City are set to win the Premier League this season and Pep will look to add further quality to his squad next season and Fred would be an incredible addition to the team.
